About STEM AFRICA FEST

STEM Africa Fest is not just an event, it represents a dynamic celebration of curiosity, innovation, and the boundless potential inherent in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). It serves as a vibrant platform dedicated to fostering a brighter future for Africa by igniting a passion for STEAM disciplines among its youth.

Our mission is clear: to kindle the flames of enthusiasm for STEAM within African youth, who are poised to shape the continent’s tomorrow. With each participant, we are actively contributing to the realization of our vision: an Africa where ideas evolve into transformative community solutions, where inventions address longstanding challenges, and where creativity pioneers new frontiers in technology and art.

STEM Africa Fest was conceived in 2021 by three pioneering women in STEM, driven by the imperative to cultivate STEAM interest in children and equip them for the evolving landscape of employment, characterized by rapid technological advancement. The inaugural event was held virtually, attracting over 1,300 eager young minds.

In 2022, the STEAM Fun Fest team, comprising a consortium of esteemed STEM educators such as 9ijakids and STEM METS, orchestrated the maiden physical iteration of STEM Africa Fest. This groundbreaking event, tailored for children aged 7-13 years, took place at the prestigious Landmark Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. With over 6,000 attendees, including both parents and children, the festival offered an immersive experience replete with career talks, engaging hands-on STEAM activities, and interactive games. Notably, this marked the inception of the first physical African STEAM event catered explicitly for young children.

Since its inception, STEM Africa Fest has rapidly evolved into the preeminent STEAM gathering for children, consistently attracting a growing number of attendees. To date, the festival has welcomed over 12,000 participants, providing them with invaluable exposure to STEAM disciplines through a rich tapestry of activities and engagements.

In 2023, STEM Africa Fest expanded its horizons to embody a Pan-African ethos, reflecting its overarching educational vision. The festival extended its reach to encompass Ghana, Zambia, and Rwanda, embodying its commitment to empowering youth across the continent through STEAM education.
