The STEAM Competition which is an integral part of STEM Africa Fest, is designed to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills by encouraging children to identify a problem and think of a creative solution to address that problem.

How to Enter the Competition

THEME:  Rethink Recycle : Trash To Treasure

To Enter the Competition, the Children Must: 

  • Be a student between 7 and 16, enrolled in a school in Nigeria.
  • Identify and propose a solution to a problem in your community that relates to the theme.
  • Submit a video (Not more than 2 minutes) with a prototype of your project.
  • You will be contacted if your video is selected for the semi-finals.

The STEAM Pitch Competition is a part of the larger STEM Africa Fest, designed to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The competition encourages children to identify a problem in their community and propose a creative solution related to the theme. The theme for this year’s edition is “Rethink Recycle: Trash to Treasure.”

The competition is open to students aged 7 to 16, enrolled in a school in Nigeria.

To enter the competition, you must:

  • Identify a problem in your community that relates to the theme “Rethink Recycle: Trash to Treasure.”
  • Propose a solution to this problem.
  • Create a video (not more than 2 minutes) showcasing a prototype of your project.
  • Submit the video through the competition’s submission process.

No, there is no fee to enter the competition.

  • MAY 4th, 2024: Applications open.
  • June 16th, 2024: Application deadline.
  • June 20th, 2024: Announcement of semi-finalists.
  • June 20th – 30th, 2024: Voting for finalists.
  • July 3rd, 2024: Announcement of finalists.
  • July 6,2024: Pitch rehearsal for finalists.
  • July 20, 2024: Final Demo/Pitch Day

You can submit your video through  our website. Make sure to follow the guidelines and include your contact information.

The video must be no longer than 2 minutes and should showcase a prototype of your project. It should clearly explain the problem, your proposed solution, and how it relates to the theme.

Semi-finalists are selected based on the creativity and feasibility of their solution, and its relevance to the theme. Finalists are then chosen through a public voting process.

The judges will evaluate entries based on creativity, problem-solving, feasibility of the solution, and the quality of the prototype and presentation.

On Final Demo/Pitch Day, finalists will present their projects to a panel of judges. The winners will be selected based on their presentation and demonstration of the project.

Prizes include; 1,ooo,000 Naira worth of prize for the first position, 500,000 Naira worth of prize  for the first runner up, and 250,000 Naira worth of prize for the third position and lots of consolation prizes.

 

No, you cannot edit your video once you have submitted. It is important to take enough time to review your video/entry before submitting your entry for the competition. Multiple submission would be disqualified.

You can enter the competition either as an individual or as part of a team. Teams must consist of no more than three members, all within the eligible age range (7 to 16) and enrolled in a school in Nigeria. Only one submission is required per team, so be sure to collaborate and agree on the project details before submitting your entry. If entering as a team, make sure to include all team members’ information in your submission.
